Is Your Slow Website Costing You Customers? (Core Web Vitals)
We've all been there. You click a link on your phone, and the screen stays white. You wait one second. Two seconds. Three seconds. Then you give up and click "Back".
That website just lost a potential customer. And if your website is slow, that website is you.
Google's "Core Web Vitals"
Google has officially made speed a ranking factor. They call these metrics "Core Web Vitals". It sounds technical, but it really measures user annoyance. They look at three things:
1. Loading (LCP)
Largest Contentful Paint. How fast does the main content appear? If it takes more than 2.5 seconds, Google considers your site "Poor".
2. Interactivity (FID)
First Input Delay. When I click a button or tap a menu, does it react immediately? Or does the site freeze up while it thinks?
3. Visual Stability (CLS)
Cumulative Layout Shift. Does the page jump around while I'm trying to read? We've all tried to click a button only for an ad to pop up and move it. That's a bad user experience.
Why Are Northern Beaches Sites So Slow?
Usually, it's because of huge, uncompressed images. We love high-quality photos of our work, but uploading a 5MB photo directly from your iPhone is a disaster for speed. It needs to be compressed and optimised (something included in our Web Design packages).
Other culprits include cheap hosting (servers located overseas instead of in Sydney) and bloated code from DIY website builders.
The Fix
At Digital Sand, we build for speed first. We use modern coding frameworks, Australian servers, and advanced image compression to ensure your site loads instantly. Because in the digital world, fast isn't just a luxury—it's survival.
